Preparation for Work Course

This three day, fourteen hour, course is focused on the practical skills required to find employment. It does this by working with the learner to develop a positive strategy for employment, focusing on the application and interview process.

During the course you will:

  • Use handouts to update and adapt your CV
  • Complete a job application form
  • Prepare for an interview, including conducting research of an organization
  • Use the National Careers Service Website and its Interviews Section
  • Understand how to create a positive first impression and use positive body language.
  • Identify tools to improve individual self-esteem
  • Identify methods of developing personal growth
  • Understand how to recognise confident people
  • Identify your self-limiting beliefs and develop a positive attitude
  • Define assertiveness and recognise situations where it should be used
  • Identify your motivation for work and write an action plan to get it
  • Practice relaxation techniques prior to an interview
  • Practice interviews as an interviewer
  • Practice interviews as an interviewee
  • Reflect objectively after an interview
